Friday is always my favorite day of the week! I always get excited to just say: Thank God it’s Friday! For me it’s a verbal way to express that I made it through yet again another challenging week. Knowing, the weekend is around the corner and I can have fun, rest and recuperate for another week full of life’s surprises.
Officially the summer started on Friday the 21st of June, which makes the season one week old. I am just fascinated by the seasons in this country. My favorite season is Spring, where everything is so fresh! It’s a natural cycle of completion and at the same time announces a new beginning. I enjoy observing how everybody naturally prepares for each and every season.
As you guys know, I am an English teacher so the final count down has started and have two more weeks until my very necessary summer vacation! In the month of June, I have been reflecting on the past school year in 2018-2019. I look back and am astonished of all the responsibilities and new opportunities that came on my path for me to grow and blossom.
Next to my teaching job, I’ve been active in many other projects. In the new season of 2019, I had to stop with my youth ministry and the children’s homes abroad to make room for a new branch of my Poetry Tree. I started teaching Poetry workshops, designed my Poetry Blog, started with illustrations for my Poetry Bundle and shared my Divine Spoken Word on the radio in Suriname and the Netherlands.
To be honest I struggled with this transition, because I always give 200% in each and every gift from God. I am always humbled and honored that I can help build God’s Kingdom here on Earth. So when realizing the seasons were changing and having to naturally sway along with the new beginnings. Letting go and moving on always feels uncomfortable, but is also very exciting and triggers curiousity for the next adventurous step.
Even though there were storms in this season, whereby my body was giving me warning signs that I had to slow down. I had to immediately cut down some branches, enter a season of rest and be careful with my limited energy. There were months, whereby I would continuously seek balance in the busyness of daily life and rest to just function as a human being.
Since the month of June, I have been able to socialize again which also recharges me with positive energy. The students and artists of my Poetry Workshops and Spoken Word Events, would ask me when is the next one. Due to my energy levels, I decided to organize a Poetry Jam Session last Friday at T’s TeaBar in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The goal of this Pop Up Event was a mini-reunion and network party for Gilleon’S Hope and Friends.
I don’t know if it was the weather or the day of the week, but not many showed up for this free event. The friends who were present got to meet new people, enjoyed a trademark drink and delicious goodies from T’s while I shared my newest poem: Seasons. Afterwards, some of us had dinner and dessert at a Turkish restaurant. What a good way to kick off the weekend with Positive Summer Vybz!
It’s a wrap for this Poetry Season! I look forward to a couple of weeks of relaxation during the summer vacation to prepare for the cycle of the new Poetry Season! To give my readers a little sneak peek: I’m working on launching a YouTube Channel for Gilleon’s Hope. So, stay tuned peeps!
