In the summer of 2016, I visited the beautiful island of Curacoa in the Caribbean after a whole decade. During this phase of my life, I was searching for possibilities to move abroad and hopefully settle down there in the future.
Let me first start by sharing my life journey with you. On 19 August 1982 I was born in Paramaribo, Surinam and due to an economical crisis in the country. My parents who were both elementary and high school teachers, decided to move the family to a safer environment.
My three year younger brother and I grew up on two different Caribbean islands named Sint Eustatius and Saba. These islands are part of ‘The Netherland Antilles’. At the age of 5 until my 11th year, I was able to experience an exciting childhood by experiencing: a different culture, learning the English language and surviving the yearly hurricanes.
At the age of 11, we moved to the Netherlands for education purposes. First we lived in Amsterdam for two years, where I finished my elementary school period. Starting high school is always a very thrilling time for any teenager. Eventually, we started this new chapter in ‘Purmerend’, where I have been living the longest until this day. I am so grateful to my parents for the choices they made for us!
My brother and I both followed into the footsteps of my parents and became teachers. He teaches Mindfulness Physical Education and I am an English and Special Educational Needs Teacher at high school. My parents are both retired now and enjoy their old days together.
Now at the age of 36 and having experienced a Burn-Out, I long for a new rhythm of life in another country. As Bob Marley would say: “Love the Life you Live and Live the Life you Love.” I dream of warm weather, friendly people and peace of mind!
During a Crusader Church conference in Curacao, I received a prophetic word from the Lord through prophetess Michelle McClain-Walters. At the time I was going through a horrible storm and hearing God’s plans for my life made me speechless and in awe of His love towards me.
