When you think of the summer, you want to sense the warmth of the sun right? Looking outside of my window, I see showers of rain falling from the heavens and feeding the flowers to be able to grow and blossom. I intensely enjoy moments like these, because it’s all part of the seasonal cycle in the Netherlands. I love the different seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Each one of them having its own character and beauty!
This weekend, I have a couple of days off due to Pentecost which means that the summer vacation is getting closer! It feels so good not having to set my alarm clock! To have the time to make myself a decent breakfast and just hang out on the couch with my blanket, laptop and a cup of tea. Gospel music calms me and brings sweet tranquility in my home, so I always have it playing in the background. Later, I have all the freedom in the world to either read a good book or watch an inspiring movie on Netflix! These or a couple of ways, I relax and recuperate for the last weeks of the school year.
Today’s weather has me reminiscing on my past summers and brought me back to one of my first Divine Spoken Word performances. In the summer of 2017, I was introduced to Samany Sedney via a mutual friend in church. Samany is a very talented Spoken Word Artist who has been active in the gospel scene for quite some time now. She suggested to kick off the summer with a Poetry Night in ‘Westerpark’. All creatives were invited to join us and share their art work while enjoying a delicious barbecue!
Mind you, I had just written two poems and decided to share ‘The Wait For My Soulmate’. I remember that my friends took the time and came out to listen to my poetry. I was so nervous and felt vulnerable since it was such an open and public place. My poetry is autobiographical and was actually never written for public ears and my eyes only. Still, I decided to be courageous and share in the hope that others could relate and it blesses people’s heart.
The positive response from the public, amazes me every single time. I always feel so humbled and honored to share my poetry, my life and especially what God means to me. It was a lovely experience to share the stage with other sing-song writers and poets. The park, the weather, the people, the food, the music and poetry in this season made it worth sharing!
Samany Sedney thanks again for this precious summer memory and being a building block for others! It’s always a blessing to be a blessing!
