In the winter of 2018, I literally escaped from the freezing cold in the Netherlands and celebrated the holidays in my country of birth in South America, ‘Switi Sranan’ meaning ‘Sweet Surinam’. ‘Sranan Tongo’ is the dialect they speak there and is literally translated as ‘Surinamese Tongue’.
I am such a family addict and just love to be among people who are dear to me. It recharges me with positive energy and let’s me forget the busyness of daily life. We had one of the biggest family Christmas parties ever and to be surrounded by my blood relatives was priceless. I experienced New Year’s Eve in Surinam for the first time as an adult, which was Crazy Fun!
While in the country, I received the opportunity to be on the largest Christian radio stations in Paramaribo, Surinam. At Radio Shalom Inspiration 94.5 FM, I was interviewed by presentator Leandro Martoesoewikjno during the live show ‘Happy Hour’. I was able to share My 1st Dutch Divine Spoken Word ‘Een Sterke Vrouw’ and ‘Equilibrium’ with the listeners. It was such an honor to be a guest and felt humbled to share my life on the air.
As you’ve probably read in my previous articles, I’ve got a passion for children. I had a strong desire to visit a children’s home in need of help. I was blessed to meet the right people which lead me to ‘Stichting Claudia A’. Which is a foundation that guides children infected with: HIV, teenage mothers and children with Down Syndrome. My family heard of my plans and the visit turned into a Christmas Party held at ‘Stichting Albuflo’ in Flora. A foundation that supports charity projects for unprivileged youth. It was such a blessing to meet and spend time with these heroes, who struggle daily to survive the harshness of life.
The rich history, cultural diversity, nature’s beauty and warmth of the people just made me fall in love with my roots! There is something in the air, that you can’t find elsewhere. Now, I know for sure that this is the only country in the world where I want to settle down and grow old. See you soon ‘Mi Switi Sranan’!
